How to Get There

Yala National Park is located along the southern coast of Sri Lanka about 250 km from Colombo. Visitors can reach it by bus, train, or plane. Once in the park, visitors can explore on foot or take a safari excursion. The best time to visit the park is during the dry season which lasts from December through April because this is when there are less mosquitos and other insects. Yala National Park is located on the south-eastern tip of Sri Lanka. To get there, take the Puttalam – Koggala road from Colombo, and turn on to the Nuwara-eliya road. After about 40 km, you will reach Yala National Park. To reach this destination, you need to fly from Colombo to Ratnapura and then take a car. The park is located in the very center of the island, so it’s not too far away from any major city. For example, it’s about 1 hour and 45 minutes from Bentota.

The park is also home to the largest population of wild Asian elephants in the world and it’s one of only two places where you can find them. The other location is in Malaysia. The Yala National Park is filled with animals of all types. Visitors will be able to see elephants, leopards, and a wide variety of birds. There are also many endemic species in the park, including Sri Lankan langurs and sloth bears.
